Flotilla Commander's Message

First let me welcome our newest members Ronald Roth, Russ Garland, Fred Shaneyfelt and Carol Sweeney. Mentors are being selected and will be announced at the April meeting. Please make every effort to introduce yourself to our new members.

Division Captain Harry Eschedor will be our Guest Speaker this month. Harry will also present AUXOP awards to Juan Hernandez, Bill Cabana, and Bob Chapman. Congratulations to our new AUXOPs who have been waiting quite a while for their awards.  Feel free to ask Harry any questions you might have about Division/District plans or policies. Division Captains make scheduled visits to Flotilla meetings to meet with members and answer any questions and concerns.

I’ve been told the Fore and Aft goes on the Website this month, so you may be reading this on your computer. If so, we’d like to get feedback, either positive or negative.

The Division meeting is this Saturday April 9th at 0900. The location is Flotilla 8-4 in Sarasota next to the 10th Street Ramp. All are invited to attend.  Next month we hope to have a fellowship meeting as many of our winter members start their way home. With any luck we may have an air conditioned building fueled by central AC. Hopefully by meeting time we’ll have some definite news for you.

The winter Public Education program has ended and I thank those who came to class virtually every night. The PE program not only educates the public but is also our source for new members.

And finally, we’ll have a moment of silence for Bob Harris who passed away this month. Bob had been ill for quite a while and his passing was somewhat of a blessing for his family. In case anyone is unaware, Bob was a past Flotilla Commander and Division Vice Captain.  I remember being on Bob’s boat when I was training for crew and coxswain. I was there when the Betty Lynn was towed for the last time by Walt Jennings and I was on the Evelyn on virtually its first patrol. As Bob’s wife said, “Bob loved the Coast Guard Auxiliary”
